Guidelines
Shared principles for building with Commure UI — for design and engineering.
Principles
- Craft as differentiator. Detail, motion, and finish signal respect for clinicians and patients alike.
- Simplify the complex. Clinical workflows are dense — every interaction should reduce cognitive load, not add to it.
- Impact over output. Ship the right thing, not more things. Prefer composition over customization.
Accessibility
- Every component is built on Base UI. Keyboard navigation, ARIA roles, and focus management come for free — preserve them.
- Keep focus rings visible. Never override
outlinewithout providing a visible focus indicator. - Honor
prefers-reduced-motion— the design system handles this via the global stylesheet; avoid hard-coding animation durations in product code. - Mark decorative icons
aria-hidden. Icons that convey meaning must have an accessible label.
Do / Don't
Do
- Use semantic design tokens (
--weave-ink,--weave-text-2). - Compose DS primitives rather than writing raw HTML equivalents.
- Use
Typographyfor body copy and headings. - Use
Iconfor icons.
Don't
- Hardcode colors or font sizes — use tokens.
- Re-implement components that already exist in the DS.
- Create thin wrappers that only forward props to a single DS primitive.
- Use raw
Neutral-*palette tokens in product code.
